Brno, Czech Republic and Houston, TX—August 2, 2010—CommodityPoint, A Division of UtiliPoint International, Inc. focused on research, analysis and consulting around global wholesale commodity markets and trading & risk management technologies, has released a landmark report on alternative delivery mechanisms for Commodity Trading and Risk Management (CTRM) software. The report looks at the rising popularity in some segments of the industry for delivery mechanisms such as Software as a Service (SaaS), hosting and leasing as opposed to the more traditional on premise licensing model. CommodityPoint will shortly issue a new free report on Non-Traditional Delivery Methods for CTRM Software and this article provides a snapshot of some of the findings of the study. The study was kindly sponsored by Aspect Enterprise, Allegro Development, IHS, OATI, Navita and SolArc. The full and complete report will be available for download on the UtiliPoint International website and CTRM Blog by the end of July.

Software as a Service, hosting and leasing are all alternative methods for delivery of CTRM software and they seem to be growing in popularity in many segments of the industry. Indeed, our study indicates that these delivery methods are already more widespread than at first we thought and are set to grow rapidly over the coming years.

Diamonds Mark CTRM’s Coming of Age

The announcement by Triple Point this week that Su-Raj Diamonds had selected it’s CTRM software to manage its Precious Metals sourcing and operations is the latest in a series of announcements by the CTRM vendor community of licensing deals in what might be loosely termed the ‘end user’ market. The ‘end user’ market segment comprises firms that utilize commodities in their operations and wish to reduce their exposure to price volatility. It includes companies in the food and beverage, agricultural, transportation, and manufacturing areas, and it is rapidly growing in importance as a source of new clients and revenues for CTRM software vendors.

Aspect Enterprise Increases Coverage and Client Base

I spoke with the Director of Sales for EMEA for Aspect Enterprise (AES), Yags Savania, this morning to get an update on the company. AES is a leading provider of E/CTRM solutions delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS) with a historical focus on oil traders. “Historical” is a well chosen word because AES is expanding its coverage among energy commodities and beyond delivering metals, coal and other TRM functionality for its AspectTRM product and several existing clients. Additionally, the company really has traction signing at least one new client a month for its TRM solutions at the moment.
