It is all go here in the Brno office of CommodityPoint as we finalize many of the arrangements for the conference next week in Houston, TX. Fedex just left the building with all of the materials prepared for the delegates! Mark and I will travel to Prague on Monday and fly out via Paris on Tuesday hopefully, we will be in reasonable shape come Thursday!

As of now we have 100 people registered for the conference and with a few days remaining and registrations coming in, we look set for 110-120 which is up from the 90 something that attended the Prague Conference in May. Yes – there is still time to register and you can do so here. We certainly look forward to seeing you all there…..

Despite having spent perhaps the last 20-years looking at various shades and varieties of software solutions in and around E/CTRM software, I can still occasionally be surprised. Yesterday I had the pleasure of catching up with Mike Muse, co-founder of Woodlands Solutions, LLC in The woodlands, Texas. I will disclose that I have known Mike for many years and tracked his career through a number of ETRM vendors. He and his co-partner founded Woodlands Solutions in 2008 and have essentially ‘boot strapped’ the development of Phoenix, its ETRM solution. I was surprised to learn that the company already has a healthy client base (just less than 10 Mike reported to me) but rather more surprised at the maturity of the software.

On June 23rd, 2011 the International Energy Agency (IEA) made a significant announcement. For just the third time in its history, it announced the release of oil from strategic reserves—some 60 million BBLs over the preceding month. The announcement pointed to the Libyan situation, where it estimated some 132 million BBLs of light, sweet crude oil had been removed from the market by the end of May, 2011 and noting that greater supply tightness (and the resulting run in up in prices) could threaten the fragile global recovery. The impact of this “shock” announcement was pretty immediate as crude prices fell with Brent Futures falling close to 7.5 percent in the immediate aftermath.
