On Friday I spoke with Gerald Neher the MD at Vienna-based ComFin, providers of the BullDog ETRM software package. Late in 2010 we learned that the previous MD had left abruptly due to illness and that the company was losing staff. Mr. Neher told us that indeed the change in management had been disruptive causing a degree of uncertainty and some staff had left but the company was now moving forward on a variety of initiatives and was hiring again with plans to bring on 3 additional staff in the first quarter of 2011. The company still has around 20 clients for its BullDog software.

CommodityPoint will soon publish the results of its Data Management Study, an effort supported and sponsored by Datagenic, LIM, SAS, SmartCo, and SunGard. This research effort was designed to evaluate the current state of the market for data management tools and solutions in the commodity trading & risk management environment and provide some benchmark and trend data for further analysis.

In a call with Navita today I was directed to an interview on their website that makes for fascinating reading. Its titled “Creating the next generation ECTRM platform” and it discusses their internal project (known as Airbus apparently) to deliver a new version of Pomax that introduces OLAP cube technology, moves application layer calculations to the database layer, employs the AppFabric application platform from Microsoft, and leverages workflow technology, all in combination with some key functional enhancements including fully flexible, and high-performance sub-hourly resolution and multi-leg trade modeling.
