CommodityPoint is conducting research into alternative delivery mechanisms for CTRM software such as SaaS and hosted, for example, to determine the trends and establish some benchmark data around SaaS, hosted and other delivery models.

Recent CommodityPoint research and vendor and end user briefings suggests that alternative delivery models for CTRM seem to be catching on as a trend in the industry—specifically SaaS and hosted models. Included in this study:

ZE PowerGroup was established in May 1995 by Dr. Zak El-Ramly as a strategic consulting and software development firm to serve the emerging needs of energy markets in transition. It’s product; ZEMA, an Enterprise Data Management (EDM) solution designed for supporting risk management, trading, and operations at energy and financial firms, is widely used in North America across the industry including at utilities, associations, municipalities, marketers, end-users, joint action and government agencies, power producers, natural gas producers, energy marketers, large industrials, and consumers. Last summer, it established a presence in Europe. I spoke with Mr. Ian Gordon about ZE’s European activities recently.

Last week, David Steele (President of UtiliPoint International, Inc.), Patrick Reames (MD, CommodityPoint, Americas), Mark Tredway (Director of Business Development, CommodityPoint) and myself spent a couple of days in Prague doing some business. The weather, although cold, was actually quite nice and we did manage to get some sight seeing in too ably directed by John Mohr (CEO, CFO2GO – our local accounting firm). Late last year, I spoke at and chaired a roundtable discussion at the Energy Risk Conference in Prague, Czech Republic. One of the roundtable participants was Mr. David Kučera, General Secretary of the Prague Power Exchange (Power Exchange Central Europe, a.s.) and I was fascinated to learn something of the challenges and hurdles he and his colleagues had gone through (and may yet still face) in working to create an exchange here in Central and Eastern Europe. As a result, I asked him if he could spend some time again with me answering some questions that I thought would be of interest to our readers. He readily agreed and here is the core of that interview.

Sometime around the middle of the month, CommodityPoint will issue the first version of our CTRM Vendor and Product Sourcebook. We anticipate this becoming the tool of choice for those seeking to find CTRM software. It will of course be entirely FREE and available from our websites.
