Is Software as a Service Catching On?

Traditionally, CTRM software has been delivered via a licensing arrangement where the software is installed at the user’s site. Implementations are long, expensive and quite risky. CommodityPoint data suggests that CTRM implementationscosts range from one to three times the cost of the software licenses and a fair proportion of projects end with a suboptimal result or a failed implementation.

SolArc Selected by Eco-Energy

SolArc today announced that Eco-Energy, an end-to-end midstream alternative energy company founded in 1990 to fill the significant void in the transportation and distribution sector of the alternative energy industry, had selected SolArc’s RightAngle application suite. Eco-Energy provides price-focused and service-oriented solutions to a variety of companies, including bio-fuel refiners, major oil companies, blenders, retailers, and other commodity companies.

The commodity trading industry is starting to see wave after wave of proposals from various government entities calling for new regulations and reporting requirements. Some of the proposals may be viewed as market tuning exercises, such as the one put forth within the last two days which could put limits on the physical location of traders’ computers relative to the trading exchanges with which they transact (as the closer you are to the exchange computers, the faster you can commit trades, particularly handy if you are a programmatic or algorithmic trader). Others, if passed as proposed, could have significant and fundamental impacts on the energy commodity markets.

Datagenic Readying Major New Release

I spoke to Richard Quigley this morning, CEO of DataGenic. DataGenic is a leader in data management solutions offering Genic DataManager, an end-to-end software solution for the integration, cleansing, enrichment and distribution of all types of data. Richard told me that they are readying a new release of its software that pushes “the boundaries of data management” in GDM v. 3.0. Its due out in a matter of weeks apparently.
