UK-based Contigo has signed three new clients for its EnTrader software in the last three months I learned at E-World in Essen last week. I met with David Calmonson of Contigo to learn a bit more about the company, its products and recent activities. Contigo seem to have found an opening in the UK retail segment where they have already signed two new customers with more likely to follow. Their third new client is in the UK Generation segment.
I asked Mr. Calmonson what was driving this activity. He told me that the enTrader software has proven very successful over the last 12 months in the UK within the energy retail sector. “Organizations within which we have implemented enTrader had been using software ranging from in-house Excel based systems to large scale ETRM packages with limited success. EnTrader is ideally positioned in terms of being user friendly, cost effective as well as fast to configure and implement. It provides a secure and auditable commercial interface between the energy procurement and the retail business including managing trades, contracts and positions. enTrader also provides excellent report facilities for in-house management and to energy clients via a client portal direct to site, for example.”
The UK retail segment is one that requires a good deal of functionality but perhaps at less cost than a solution from a high-end supplier. As Calmonson also pointed out, “EnTrader is configured and up and running in 6 to 8 weeks as compared to the 9-18 months quoted by some of the major CTRM platform providers.” Plainly, this keeps costs down and provides a solution rapidly for the highly competitive retail area which was once also a target for Excelergy. However, Excelergy were acquired last year perhaps adding to Contigo’s ability to sell and deliver into the retail segment?
Contigo is a relatively new vendor that started out as a consulting and custom development company based in the Midlands, UK and was founded by some experienced trading and risk management IT professionals. Over the last few years however, it has productized some of its software and now offers packaged TRM and related software.
